I love the piece called “Girl, Commodified”. The “poncho” that is actually plastic wrap, along with the price tag and barcode really gets the message across in such a creative and artistic way.
I found it especially ironic that the label included "safe handling instructions." Sometimes it feels like society treats objects as more valuable than human life.
I completely agree. The world we live in does not view women as human but rather something to be used as an object. We have trained girls to grow up and in many ways “sell” themselves like any other material object in this capitalistic society, specifically for men. It teaches girls from a young age that being wanted by men is the main priority. Not only is this detrimental to all women but it also greatly impacts the growth and progression that society can make when using women for their intellect rather than beauty.
