My piece is in some ways a reflection or depiction of myself. Whether the figure symbolizes a mirror or a confrontation, or something else, depends on the viewer. While working on this and my other painting, I was often considering the feeling of being a woman, being feminine, and performing my gender. I was also thinking about the body. The rituals we perform on our own body to be seen as feminine, that are so natural to me now, can be at the same time self-destructive.
