The curation of the different art and writing pieces seemed to focus on the expectations set for females and what qualifies as "feminine" or "beautiful." Lwiza AitDowd's "How Gender is Seen with Islam in America" makes an interesting case for expression of identity through clothing. I feel like it would be a strong argument against uniforms, especially ones that differ with an individual's gender. Elizabeth Suby's works also present gender norms and gendered expectations of beauty in a powerful way. Too often, femininity is equated with the need to be thin and to look young. Expression must be done in accordance to the male gaze, as Chloe Wayne's piece brings up.
